The sun had barely risen on the morning of February 8 when the first group of volunteers arrived at what would soon become the new Green Our Planet Compassionate Gardens Headquarters. The air was crisp, and a quiet determination settled over the team. This was Demo Day, the first major step toward transforming our future home.
As team members and volunteers from Los Vaqueros and Nellis Air Force Base gathered, there was a mix of seasoned workers and first-time demolition participants. Some arrived in work boots and gloves, ready to tear down walls, while others were there to lend a hand wherever needed. Everyone had one goal: clear out the 7,000-square-foot space and set the stage for what’s next.
With a plan to gut the interior in five hours and more than 40 volunteers ready, we got to work. As the first walls came down, dust filled the air, and the sound of hammers and crowbars echoed through the building. Teams worked together to break down drywall, haul debris, and fill five massive blue dumpsters.

As the hours passed, the transformation became evident. Spaces that once felt cramped and unusable were now stripped down, revealing the building’s full potential. The vision for the new Green Our Planet Compassionate Gardens Headquarters was taking shape, not just as an office, but as a resource for fresh produce, educational workshops, and hands-on learning opportunities for the community.
By midday, the last of the debris had been hauled away. The once-cluttered space now stood open, ready for its next stage of transformation. Before wrapping up, volunteers were invited to write their dreams for the space on a blank wall. Words and drawings soon filled the surface, capturing hopes for the students, teachers, and community members who would one day be inspired here. This was more than a demolition; it was the first tangible sign of progress toward a future where Green Our Planet could grow its reach and impact.

We are deeply grateful to Los Vaqueros and Nellis Air Force Base volunteers for their time, energy, and willingness to jump in. Their support helped us take this crucial first step.
There’s still plenty of work ahead, but Demo Day showed us what’s possible when people come together with a shared purpose. As we continue to build and grow, we look forward to welcoming the community into a space designed for education and innovation.
Check out our plans and stay tuned for more updates. We can’t wait to share what’s next for Green Our Planet Compassionate Gardens!
